Rules Governing Imports / Overseas
Visitors
IIHF Regulations state that any player moving from one
country to another requires transfer approval. This approval is
required irrespective of whether or not the individual played hockey
in his/her country of birth.
Australian citizens returning to Australia after having
transferred to another country on an unlimited (permanent) transfer,
will require a transfer approval to play in Australia.
The only exemption to the requirement for a transfer
approval is where the player was under 10 years of age when he/she
migrated to Australia with his/her parents. No transfer
approval is required.
Ice Hockey Australia
defines an
Import player
as a non-Australian born player who does
not hold Australian citizenship or permanent residency status, but
has a valid entry Visa to Australia, as approved by Department of Immigration,
Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs.
Imports, aged 18 years and over, who subsequently qualify
for a State or National Team, must obtain a 'Limited' or 'Unlimited'
International Transfer Card (ITC).
Imports, under 18 years of age who arrived in Australia
after their tenth birthday must have obtain an IIHF transfer Letter
of Approval.
International Transfer Cards (ITC), are obtained from
the Secretary of IHA through a player's club secretary. Application
forms are also obtained from the Secretary of IHA. Contact details
for IHA can be obtained from the IHNSW website or office. A copy
of the application/approval must be forwarded to the IHNSW
office for recording purposes.
All overseas visitors, aged 18 years and over, require
an ITC to play ice hockey in Australia, including recreational.
Any club wishing to sponsor an overseas player (import)
must abide by the rules and regulations of the Department of Immigration
and Citizenship.
Any transfer of an Import during the term of a club
sponsored Visa will be subject to a minimum clearance fee of $550.00
(North America), $1050 (Europe) to cover the expenses of
the sponsoring club. The Committee of Management may determine &
enforce a higher fee if justified.
Individuals claiming diplomatic status (of accredited
diplomatic staff), will be deemed as 'local' status for participation
in IHA competitions.
A maximum of three imports / overseas
recreational players per team may be listed on any Game Report sheet.
This Does not apply to Senior B Division.
Non-Australian born players under 18 years of age who
arrived in Australia after their tenth birthday must have held an
IIHF transfer Letter of Approval for a minimum of two years in order
to be considered eligible to play for a national team.
A letter of approval is similar to an ITC, is provided
free of charge to the applicant and upon reaching his/her
18th birthday, a player's transfer approval automatically continues
without the necessity of purchasing an ITC, which costs approximately $500.00.
Letters of approval are obtained by IHA
and
initial application is made via a player's club secretary
.
Senior B players please contact IHNSW for your clearance requirements.
